AR Battle Mode
The AR Battle Mode is a brand new feature introduced in Kid Icarus: Uprising. This mode allows players to utilize the Nintendo 3DS's Augmented Reality (AR) mechanic to engage in battles using official Kid Icarus collectable cards, which will spawn characters using the device's cameras. Each copy of the game comes with six random cards. A list of the known cards can be found here.
When the arrows located at the bottom of each AR card are lined up, battle commences. Each card has four attributes: attack, health (HP), speed, and type. The higher the speed, the more often a card attacks, subtracting its attack strength from the opponent's health. When a card's health hits zero, it loses. Attack and possibly speed are increased when a card's type beats the other's. Shield beats sword, which in turn beats magic, which beats shield. Class does not affect battle, and no random or skill based factors are used.
Palutena's Army is the class that includes the main protagonists and their supporters, including Palutena herself, Pit, the Centurions, and even Pit's Power of Flight. This class is represented by Palutena's symbolic halo with wings and the color light blue.
The Underworld Army is the class of Medusa, Hades, and their minions, which include all enemies and most of the game's bosses. Other supporting villains fall into this group as well such as Dark Lord Gaol and Thanatos. This class is represented by an evil symbol that resembles an eye and the color purple.
The Forces of Nature class includes the characters and creatures that are loyal to Viridi, the goddess of nature and seek to eliminate humanity on her orders. They feature the Forces of Nature symbol on the card and are represented by the color green.
This class includes the mysterious aliens known as the Aurum, along with their spaceships and their replicated creatures. They feature a geometric design and are represented by the color light blue.
This class includes the Chaos Kin and the beings it has controlled in order to spread destruction throughout the world. They feature a stylized version of the Chaos Kin's design and are represented by the color dark red.
Unaffiliated characters are those that don't necessarily support either side, although they can still be classified as good or evil. Magnus, Souflee, and the Fighters can be considered neutral, while Dark Pit takes on an antagonistic role despite him not being affiliated with the Underworld Army. Certain items also fall into this group, such as the Fiend's Cauldron. This class is represented by a simplistic oval symbol and the color grey.
The Weapon class includes every weapon useable in the game. These also include the Three Sacred Treasures and Great Sacred Treasure that Pit can utilize in battle. All nine of the individual weapon groups and the Sacred Treasures are represented by their own unique symbol and the color dark blue. All weapon AR cards summon Pit, a Fighter, or Dark Pit wielding the said weapon.
The Item class includes all of the items that can be collected in the game by Pit. Being one of the smallest classes, it includes the Treasure Chests, Hearts, and Food among other items. This class is represented by an image of a treasure chest and the color pink.
The Vehicles class includes all the useable vehicles in the game. This includes the Exo Tank and a few others. This class is represented by the color beige and a gear symbol.
