Help:Protected Pages

Staff members have the ability to protect and unprotect pages. A protected page is a page that has been locked so that only certain users can edit it. Here on Icaruspedia, since only registered users can make edits, protected pages are pages that are locked so only administrators can edit them. Most pages on Icaruspedia will remain unlocked, but high traffic, vandalism, or spam are the main reason pages are protected.
If you find a mistake on a protected page, contact a Staff member, and they will fix the mistake. If you feel a page should be unprotected, start a discussion on its talkpage.
Reasons
- High Traffic: A page may be protected due to high traffic. This would mainly be the Main Page, and other pages visited often.
- High Vandalism: A page that has been vandalized multiple times can be protected as well.
- To prevent spam or vandalism: Some pages may be locked to prevent spam or vandalism, a page that a Staff member see getting vandalized or spammed often can be protected.
- To prevent all editing: A page that doesn't need to be edited any further editing may be protected.
Temporary Protection
Some pages may have a temporary protection, or a protection that only lasts a certain period of time. Some reasons for protecting a page temporarily are:
- Edit Wars: An edit war is when multiple users disagree on something that an article needs/doesn't need, and continuously undo each other's edits. This is usually something minor, and pages can be protected for a small duration of time to end edit wars.
- Small Vandalism: If small vandalism incidents happen on a page, it may be locked for a short period of time to prevent the page from getting vandalized.
