Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition (known as Nintendo World Championships: Famicom Sekai Taikai in Japan) is a party game collection set to release worldwide on July 18, 2024 for the Nintendo Switch. The game is based on the Nintendo World Championships that was held as tournament events. It consists of several challenges themed around various Nintendo Entertainment System games, with Kid Icarus being one of them.[2]
Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition is available to download from the Nintendo eShop on its own, or players can purchase a Deluxe Edition that comes with a physical copy of the game as well as additional materials such as an unplayable gold NES cartridge.[1]
Overview
Similarly to the championship events themselves, the main focus of Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition revolves around speedrunning. Though no points are tallied in the video game, players are given grades for how well and how fast they complete challenges. Players can also compete against others either online or locally.
Games are played in short bursts of specific challenges, similar to NES Remix and NES Remix 2.
There are various modes players can choose from:
- Speedrun Mode - Single-player events where the player has to complete challenges as fast as possible. By earning enough coins, players can unlock additional challenges.[2]
- World Championships - Weekly competitions of five games. Players' scores will be added to an online leaderboard.[2]
- Party Mode - A local multiplayer mode for up to eight players. Players compete against each other and a winner is determined at the end.
- Legend Challenges - A large-scale challenge where the player is given a complicated task to complete. Tips are available for players to reference if they are having trouble.[3]
- Survival Mode - A race against replay data of other players. Players either progress or are eliminated at the end of each round based on their performance.[3]
Icons of Pit can also be used as player profiles.

- "Seek & Destroy" - A challenge involving defeating Shemums.[2]
- "Pitcher Perfect" - A challenge involving solving a Treasure Chamber successfully.[3]
- A challenge involving a Hot Spring.[2]
- "Harp On It" - A challenge involving a Harp.[2]
- A challenge involving Specknoses.[2]
- "Water Divination" - A challenge involving finding a Water of Life.[2]
